Stone Forest

Áurea Palacio de Sober 4* is surrounded by nature, with beautifully landscaped gardens and a lush oak forest. We invite you to venture into this forest filled with sculptures. A magical corner where granite comes to life in the form of animals, Romanesque churches and winegrowers from the Ribeira Sacra.

The authors of these works are artisans participating in the Áurea Palacio de Sober Stonecutters’ Competition, held every year at the same location, with prizes of €2,000, €1,000 and €500. The first edition took place in 2023 and was dedicated to the theme As doce doncelas, the founding legend of the Palacio de Sober. This was followed by El arte románico, Fauna gallega, Viticultura heroica and Oficios tradicionales. All of these themes are linked to Galicia, inviting artisans from across Spain to bring them to life creatively in blocks of granite.

The effort and creativity of the participating stonecutters have resulted in a permanent sculpture exhibition that guests can explore during their stay. To help guide you, a map is available for consultation at the hotel.
